Democrats Hope Mueller Testimony Will Revive Probes

July 2, 2019 at 6:44 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“Robert Mueller will appear grudgingly before House committees this month, but the former special prosecutor’s testimony is the best chance Democrats have to revive their stymied probes of President Donald Trump,” Bloomberg reports.

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s resistance to a politically risky impeachment inquiry leaves six committees pursuing Trump-related inquiries without a clear mission. And a White House order that current and former officials refuse to testify, or limit their testimony, has deprived Democrats of big-name witnesses.”

“So House Democrats are banking on the made-for-TV spectacle of Mueller testifying on July 17 at a morning session of the Judiciary Committee and an afternoon meeting of the Intelligence Committee.”

1. If Barr tells him not to testify

he probably won't. He's a follower of rules.

If Trump declares blanket immunity over this as well, he won't testify.

I'm losing hope, a little more every day that our congress, the ones elected to put a curb on Agent Orange, will ever do more than ask nicely for cooperation and then ask nicely again when they don't get it.

But, from what I've heard, "centrists" who won "Republican" districts are the only people who are important.

What do you expect Democrats can do to stop him? As far as I know, they’re using all the tools in their arsenal except impeachment. And unless he, by a miracle, gets convicted in the Senate, he’d still be our President if impeached.

There’s several cases in the court system right now and if Trump defies a court order, the US Marshalls can enforce the order. Apparently the Marshalls are extremely loyal to the federal courts.

there will NEVER be an impeachment inquiry opened. So, I guess there is nothing that can be done. Ever.

Marshall service will do as Barr tells them to as they answer to the DOJ and their leadership is appointed by Trump.

Our election systems are wide open for tampering and other nations have been explicitly invited in to aid Trump and his minions.

Mitch McConnell (who has more power than the executive branch at this point) has proved that he can force the House to do as he says without question. If he says "vote yes on this", they jump and say "YES SIR! We will".

There is literally no hope. Thanks for confirming that.

I’m just saying it won’t stop Trump.

As far as the Marshalls go, the article I was reading (sorry I don’t have a link) insisted that the DOJ was secondary to the federal court system when it comes to enforcement.

Our one and only hope is to get out the vote in 2020. If we turn out, Russian techniques and Republican voter suppression can be overcome. The alternative is just to live in doom and gloom and that’s not healthy.

mouths shut and our fingers crossed?

The way this has been handled by our leadership has looked weak and disorganized and they chose to put party before country.

Of course we need to GOTV next year. If Mickey Mouse was our nominee, I'd vote for him. However, I must admit that my attitude towards our Dem leadership has become cynical. Makes me sad and angry...

Sure, he's a follower of rules. But that means he also knows he is required to obey a Congressional subpoena.

We will see him, even if we don't get much in the way of new information.
