Sue Bird says Megan Rapinoe was 'unfazed' by Donald Trump firestorm
Soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe has been the USWNT's most valuable player in the knockout stages of the 2019 World Cup, and her standout performance in last week's quarterfinal served as a deafening response to President Donald Trump, who called out Rapinoe on Twitter days earlier.
Trump responded to a video interview Rapinoe had conducted months before the World Cup began, in which she said that she would not visit the White House if the USWNT were to win a second consecutive World Cup. In his tweets, Trump warned Rapinoe to "never disrespect our Country."

A few days later, Rapinoe continued her magical run through the World Cup, scoring two goals against France to send the USWNT to the semifinals. Rapinoe has scored all of Team USA's goals in the knockout stages, and is in a tie at the top of the scoring table with five goals in the tournament.
WNBA star Sue Bird, who began dating Rapinoe in 2016, reflected on Rapinoe's whirlwind month in a Players' Tribune piece published on Tuesday titled "So the President F*cking Hates My Girlfriend." Bird wrote that while she was shaken by the action of the president - and the ensuing bombardment on social media, Rapinoe was completely unfazed by the noise.
