and it was amazing, yes the conditions were fairly bleak, BUT, this is a big but: the people there were treated with as much dignity as could be afforded.
In the US it seems as if, it is the trump's administration's goal to dehumanize these poor people as much as possible.
We are becoming nothing more than a bunch of genocidal, baby killers.
Shame on us for watching it happen!!!

(41,958 posts)1. I saw a report on one of those camps.
It did look spare and a difficult place to spend months, but I saw tables for people to eat on and a reasonable amount of cleanliness and room.
We have become one of those countries we used to be horrified about.

(60,010 posts)2. Dehumanization is a process by which a particular group is marked as sub-human.
It is one of the earliest signs of a genocidal process.
This includes
describing them as animals or disease
. ( in trump's own words..."animals...criminals...rapists...)
The process of dehumanization often involves negative propaganda campaigns.
( calling them invaders who want to take over our country, to "ruin" our democracy, etc. )
The process of dehumanization allows the government to violate the human rights of the targeted group without the widespread criticism of the countrys people, just as long as the propaganda efforts are successful.
