Understand that most are protective of the ability of our Justice system to handle things, but we didn't make Reagan/Bush accountable for Iran/Contra or W/Cheney for Iraq/Abu Graib. Can't help wondering where we would be now if we had exacted Justice in the past.
We all prefer to look ahead to better days, but unless you treat the underlying cancer on our body politic (looking at you GOP), America will continue the cycle of the Dems cleaning up the GOP's mess, rinse/lather/repeat.
One step forward then three steps back is always a losing proposition.

(5,995 posts)My confidence in both the DoJ and the Judicial Branch is waning.
Most folks recognize that under W, the US conducted/condoned torture.
Iran/Contra was in contravention of many UN recognized treaties.
To me, the Hague could essentially be a neutral court outside of internal USA politics.
We were able to convict Calley, but we can't even prosecute a cop that kills a kid.

(43,049 posts)300 million people with differing ideas on right and wrong, justice, and so many other things we have to deal with. It's easier organizing cats than humans.
Think of it as cycles-- one step back and one and 1/2 steps forward. Forever.

We have become what we hate regards our supposed ideals.
Trump is a danger on the edge of massive disaster.
Democratic leadership is more likely to be imprisoned.
