I stated this in another thread where I wondered how many Confederate flags would show up at tomorrow's, Fourth of July, "Trump Is Great" rally.
To me, that flag is a symbol of hatred and the murder of tens of thousands of black people. (I don't know if anyone really knows how many people died under hundreds of years of slavery and then Jim Crow.)
But I do know that my reaction to the Confederate flag is visceral. When I see it, I grit my teeth, my stomach tightens and pure hatred of the sight of that rag flows through me. Same reaction as when I see a swastika.
How many will we see tomorrow near and around the Lincoln Memorial? I have no idea. But whether there are many or none, Trump is desecrating the steps of America's greatest monument.

(6,709 posts)We should also be pointing out that, like the swastika, it is the flag of losers (they won't care about the deplorable nature of it--that's a feature not a bug--but they do hate being losers).
As for tomorrow, I've seen all I need to see and won't be watching.

(15,027 posts)Please, please do an OP on this. I haven't heard it before, but you've nailed it 100%, Poiuyt. And hopefully, it will shame countless people into filling dumpsters with tons of red hats.
If you don't post it in the next day or two, I'd like your permission to post it myself.

(115,615 posts)And this was in Minnesota. I'm thinking, Dude, do you know there was once a big old war and one of your flags is the symbol of something that's the opposite of the other one? But I think he didn't know or care what the Confederate flag used to mean, only what it means now.

So German neo-nazis have adopted the confederate battle flag as their own

People who fly it truly for "heritage" are few and far between, and rightly calling it racist isn't going to sway those who fly it.
Make fun of it though...

(32,626 posts)is thousands of years old, and has had other meanings. But, none of that history is relevant any more. It's forever tainted. The Confederate Flag is just the Confederate Flag, and we know what that war was all about. This is an interesting article about the flags 'uncomplicated racist history'..
