While the Republican National Committee is trying to use Trumps speech to woo high-end donors, few, if any, seemed to want the tickets because theyd already escaped D.C.
One Republican close to the White House said he has not heard any chatter among the donor class about attending the speech, even if it meant securing top-notch seats before one of Washingtons most majestic memorials. A Republican political operative called the week of July 4 normally a dead zone for donors.
Its not a very tough ticket to get, said another Republican close to the White House. Theyre not going to give it away to anyone off the street, but if you have any juice at all, you can probably get the tickets.
The White House allowed staffers to enter a lottery to receive up to 10 tickets per person a sign of the administrations rush to fill up that space on the mall, said a third White House aide.

(82,849 posts)As for giving away tickets, I think they'll actually be paying people to take them. It's sort of a habit with Trump, because he knows he can't draw a crowd on his own, so he has to pay people to feign enthusiasm for him.

(32,634 posts)This is a no-brainer folks! Washington DC is hot, sticky and irritating in July, especially during the first week of July. There's a reason why Congress is on break, because nobody wants to be there. Chump is an idiot if he thinks he can get people to come to this thing, and sit in the hot sun and cheer for HIM!
Oh sure, he'll probably pay some people to come and be his ChumpHumper fans. But they'll take the money and leave early.

(146,286 posts)I mean, you could offer, say, $15/hr. to people who attend, and give them a MAGA hat and a t-shirt.
I don't know if there's time, though.

(15,082 posts)I just posted something similar. They used to pay $100 to people to attend his rallies, but then they turned it in to "$100 worth of Trump merchandise".
Geez!

BTW, here's the DC weather forecast for Independence Day:
Independence Day
Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 100. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday Night
Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11pm. Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 74. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Shorter: hot, sticky, wet, miserable. A good day to stay inside with the a/c on.

(15,278 posts)- basically a heart-attack waiting to happen - I would not be standing out in 100 deg heat index weather to give a campaign speech. OTOH, maybe it's the perfect weather for him to keel over and do his best Wm Henry Harrison imitation.

(91 posts)If he mentions any of his political rivals during the charade, it legally becomes a campaign rally and his campaign would then be responsibile for the costs.
But obviously since they don't know what "responsible" means, they won't pay it. Again.
