That doesn't imply a neutral moral judgment. Just a pragmatic, "Let's see how this works."
Remember, to defeat Hitler the US teamed up with Stalin, who wound up not just doing the genocide thing (think "Tatars"--granted, not as important in the West as Jews) but killed far more people over time and caused far more suffering to far more people.
I guess the moral thing would have been to *not* partner with "Uncle Joe".
