(4,986 posts)....just got the green light from SCOTUS to gerrymander the shit out of congressional districts.
Everyone must VOTE BLUE in 2020! Equally important is to VOTE BLUE in state legislature races. They're the ones who will draw the district lines based on the 2020 census. Those lines will last for a decade, just as in the 2010 GOP sweep is what got us here today.

There are more of us than there are of them. If only wed use that!
Our numbers are bigger than theirs! Unfortunately our ability to wilt is bigger than theirs, too.

(8,922 posts)We had a gathering last weekend at my home where many of my children's "30ish" year old friends were in attendance. I sat down at a table where about 6 of them were discussing politics. The short of it is, they are good people, but they know very little. They are so busy with their lives and young families and trying to earn enough money to just survive they don't have much exposure to any news about our government. They think it just runs. I don't think they all vote or that they believe their vote is very important. Nobody at the table had ever heard of gerrymandering. When I explained it to them, and the recent SCOTUS decision, some mouths dropped open in disbelief that our democracy has been attacked in such a way. So I went on to explain to eager ears about other critical SCOTUS decisions that made corporations "people" and money "speech" with respect to our Constitution, and we also went into ALEC a little bit.
Before our discussion it was clear that none of them had ever heard of any of this! I don't know how this new information will factor into their future voting decisions but they have something new and real to consider when they do vote. I think people in general just don't understand how their democracy is being pulled out from under them like a rug. I think we all have a responsibility to do a lot better job of getting the word out however we can, whenever we can.

(28,120 posts)If I send this out, I'll be asked if I fact checked it. I found this:
Most Important Problem | Gallup Historical Trends
https://news.gallup.com/poll/1675/most-important-problem.aspx
Not nearly as optimistic numbers as the graphic shows.
Yet there was this statement: "Majority of Americans (63%) remain dissatisfied with the direction of the U.S., but the percentage satisfied edged up to 36% in May."
I'm surrounded by wingers here in the South, so I cannot judge by personal interactions other than my few liberal friends.
Anyone have a links to back up the graphic's data?

(21,624 posts)That makes it the top-ranked problem - even more than the Chumpkins' favorite, immigration (23%).
Plus, the orange oaf is down 22% among independents (37/59) and down 13% overall (41/54).
It's worth noting also that Gallup tends to over-sample Republicans.
