It is just this simple: believe your "lyin' eyes".
It's an old joke. A businessman is confronted by his irate wife as soon as he arrives home: "You cheating SOB! I was driving by the No Tell Motel this afternoon and I SAW YOU walk out arm in arm with your new secretary and you kissed her before you left in separate cars! How COULD you?"
Momentarily taken aback, the man quickly regained his composure and vehemently denied being at the motel with anyone and insisted that he'd been hard at work in his office all day. "I have no idea who you might have seen, but surely you can't really believe I would do such a thing" he insisted.
Tearfully and through clenched teeth, the wife spat : "But, I SAW you!"
Hardly missing a beat, the philanderer asked: "Who you gonna believe: me or your lyin' eyes?"
This contrived morally bankrupt ultimatum encapsulates Trump's "philosophy": anyone or anything that contradicts what he announces as true is lying; is "fake news"; is treasonous.
Mexico will pay for the wall.
A border wall will stop "illegal immigration".
Windmills cause cancer.
The GOP tax cut helped everyone equally.
There were "fine people" on both sides of the violence at Charlottesville.
Global climate change is a hoax.
On these and countless other trumped-up "debates", folks, please---believe your "lyin' eyes".
