Typhus outbreak in LA

My youngest lives in LA and just told me about this. I looked it up and it's true. Scary shite! Apparently, it's been going on for a few months! Anyone know anything else about it?

1. I live here and yes, typhus cases have occurred. I believe I heard

it was downtown due to rats and the fleas that are contaminated that jump to humans.

I saw where homeless encampments are having a problem with it too. They probably will not get the help they need.

Those who believe that their problems are solved by just throwing the poor overboard forget that was share the same world - courthouses, busses, stores, bathrooms etc.

7. there are immunizations for typhus and typhoid

I had a typhus series before I went to Germany in 1959. I don't think you have to have anything to go over there now.

We had typhoid shots every other year growing up; we were out in the country and had a well. With well water, you can never be too sure what might be upstream from you....sinkholes which sometimes have dead animals in them or rusty bedsprings or even an ancient vehicle. Our doctor gave typhoid injections to all his patients who were on well water.

That typhus series made me sick! Like staying in bed and sleeping it off sick
After our doctor started giving the typhoid shots subQ in our forearm, we only had a local reaction instead of feeling like crap for 24 hours

8. Typhoid shot I had to have before going to Manila at 12 was worst shot I ever got ...

My entire arm ached BAD for like 4 days IIRC. Nasty shot, at least back round 1980, rec'd in Hong Kong.

9. They aren't as bad nowadays. I was an Army brat and remember horrible

shots for typhus, typhoid, and cholera back in the day. Vaccination technology has come a long way since then, mercifully.
