My youngest lives in LA and just told me about this. I looked it up and it's true. Scary shite! Apparently, it's been going on for a few months! Anyone know anything else about it?

(20,576 posts)I saw where homeless encampments are having a problem with it too. They probably will not get the help they need.
Those who believe that their problems are solved by just throwing the poor overboard forget that was share the same world - courthouses, busses, stores, bathrooms etc.

(22,250 posts)I had a typhus series before I went to Germany in 1959. I don't think you have to have anything to go over there now.
We had typhoid shots every other year growing up; we were out in the country and had a well. With well water, you can never be too sure what might be upstream from you....sinkholes which sometimes have dead animals in them or rusty bedsprings or even an ancient vehicle. Our doctor gave typhoid injections to all his patients who were on well water.
That typhus series made me sick! Like staying in bed and sleeping it off sick
After our doctor started giving the typhoid shots subQ in our forearm, we only had a local reaction instead of feeling like crap for 24 hours

(14,918 posts)shots for typhus, typhoid, and cholera back in the day. Vaccination technology has come a long way since then, mercifully.
