(82,849 posts)Donald, have you ever gotten a ticker tape parade? You know, like the kind they have in Manhattan? It's supposed to be quite an honor, usually accorded national heroes. Ever gotten one, Donald?

(6,231 posts)Specifically, and especially nowadays, the MSM is going to focus on any comments made by anyone that could be seen as controversial, because controversy sells ad space. Some right-wing commentator already got on Megan's case and accused her of disrespecting the flag by stomping on it, when that's not what happened (a teammate appears to have accidentally let it touch the ground). I don't have a problem with the flag or the anthem or the jets overhead during a game, but I don't like it when commentators (who get paid a bundle to stir things up) jump on anything they think they can use to bash the other side and turn players into pawns just to sell commercial time.
Rachel is a political commentator. If she and Megan can talk about the game and the World Cup and FIFA and women's soccer and so forth and keep political comments out of it, I'm all for it. The team did a hell of a job (2-0 in the final game) and they deserve celebrations and such. I just don't want to see right-wing mouths jumping into this and getting people more riled up.
BTW, I don't watch Rachel or any of those shows, I just can't. I pick up bits and pieces and clips on MSNBC.com now and then.
