The Seth Rich conspiracy, which received a ton of airtime on Fox News, was planted by Russian intel

Well this is a BFD. Russian Intelligence agents are reportedly responsible for planting the Seth Rich conspiracy theory — you know, the one that Roger Stone, Julian Assange, Alex Jones, & Sean Hannity turned into headline news.

Yahoo News reporting that the Seth Rich conspiracy, which received a ton of airtime on Fox News, was planted by Russian intelligence:

WASHINGTON — In the summer of 2016, Russian intelligence agents secretly planted a fake report claiming that Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was gunned down by a squad of assassins working for Hillary Clinton, giving rise to a notorious conspiracy theory that captivated conservative activists and was later promoted from inside President Trump’s White House, a Yahoo News investigation has found.

Russia’s foreign intelligence service, known as the SVR, first circulated a phony “bulletin” — disguised to read as a real intelligence report —about the alleged murder of the former DNC staffer on July 13, 2016, according to the U.S. federal prosecutor who was in charge of the Rich case. That was just three days after Rich, 27, was killed in what police believed was a botched robbery while walking home to his group house in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C., about 30 blocks north of the Capitol.

The purported details in the SVR account seemed improbable on their face: that Rich, a data director in the DNC’s voter protection division, was on his way to alert the FBI to corrupt dealings by Clinton when he was slain in the early hours of a Sunday morning by the former secretary of state’s hit squad.

Yet in a graphic example of how fake news infects the internet, those precise details popped up the same day on an obscure website, whatdoesitmean.com, that is a frequent vehicle for Russian propaganda. The website’s article, which attributed its claims to “Russian intelligence,” was the first known instance of Rich’s murder being publicly linked to a political conspiracy.

...it’s a miracle that there was no video. This story has a few holes in it but regardless of that, all they need to do is find the back shooting robber who didn’t bother to take anything from Seth. Now we are told he was drinking. Next we will hear he shot himself in the back. My heart goes out to his parents.

and almost always with a Russian angle. "She" has always been crazy (there's no evidence a person by that name exists, and the website stopped pretending it did refer to a person). It's probably only because they were so implausible that the website didn't become more infamous. But then the Tea Party and Trumpistas became eager to believe any old shit.

This (an "assassination attempt on Senator Inhofe&quot was from 2005 - for all I know, they'd been writing this crap for years before that: https://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1820648&mesg_id=1822219

"Of the attempted assassination bombing of Senator Inhofe these reports state that prior to his entering the sporting arena his security detail discovered a bomb set to go off when triggered by remote control. Upon their discovery of this bomb Senator Inhofe and his body guards were attempting to flee but were then fired upon by an ‘unspecified’ rocket type weapon whereupon US Army Special Forces attacked the assassins by firing a missile into their vehicle from an Apace helicopter. ... originated with the Russians the minute I read about it on JPR.

There wasn't a Russian CT that the posters on that site didn't swallow whole and regurgitate, so it was a great source of determining exactly where such stories originated.

I'm still waiting for them to explain how HRC - who they insisted was dying of at least a dozen fatal diseases - is still alive.
