Love it. Pelosi is spot on.
I just asked Pelosi about Barr's comments that Dems want to create a "spectacle" with Mueller. "I don't even want to address him. He has lied to Congress as the attorney general of the United States. He's lied under oath. I'm not speaking to anything more that he has to say."

(82,849 posts)Oh my goodness, mobilize the fainting couches, extra doses of smelling salts stat! Hold the front page, new headline, "Pelosi Uncivil" and move that story about Attorney General Barr lying to Congress under oath to page D44. Cut that story entirely if you need to make the Pelosi headline bigger.

I am fed up that all that comes from Pelosi and Democrats in charge, and I hope I am 100% wrong, is words, nothing but words as if that is going to do something to the creature and his minions. Impeachment proceeding will do it, that the Senate won't impeach? ok, do as Laurence Tribe said, don't have the Senate try him, just use it to uncover everything that needs to be uncovered!

(3,056 posts)I've gotten to the point where I don't give a rat's ass what McTurtle does or doesn't do in the Senate. Every fucking Democrat in the House and Senate should get in the well and recite Lindsay Graham, word for word, when he said, "This (Clinton's impeachment) is not about removal, it's about cleansing the office." And they should make sure they ALL credit him with the quote, i.e, "As my esteemed colleague, Senator Graham once said...", over and over, ad infinitum. Every single one of them. The Rethugs knew they would never be able to convict Clinton...they impeached anyway. And with all due respect to Nancy, I think the American people, as naive as we can be sometimes, aren't so stupid that we can't differentiate between lying about a blow job and treason.

Cabinet officers arent like c-level staff in some business.
Of course, our system is pretty broken & the congressional mechanisms dont currently function, so the available remedy is not going to work.

(11,296 posts)Well the impeach thing is getting pretty old. Now-a-days we're supposed to be running around impeaching everybody (probably including the groundskeeper at Mar-a- lago). I will predict that confirmation could become a much more rigorous process for administrations going forward. This president might have put an period to the argument, "the president deserves to have the person he wants ..." Probably not gonna' fly anymore.

Here is what Laurence Tribe recommends, and it is not old:

(4,741 posts)At least with Barr's perjury, the worst that can be done is essentially a strongly-worded letter - indictment will end in short order, ditto contempt (assuming it's the criminal charge, although these assclowns would probably find a way to void an inherent contempt charge too).
It's not that they feel there are no consequences, they just know they can avoid the consequences and have been pretty damn successful at it so far. Hopefully once it all works it's way through the courts, even the worst of the judiciary will show they want to maintain their power over the Executive, but I ain't holding my breath.
