I belong to the Friends of the Library and we run a small used book store in the library.
It's volunteer work and I had the 10:00 to 1:00 shift this morning.
There was a note on the desk that a guy was looking for a particular book and it had come in. I called hem and let him know. He was very appreciative.
He came in a half hour later. He was my only customer so far and we chatted for a while.
Seemed like a nice guy. He was a snowbird who had retired here (Alabama gulf coast) from New Jersey.
Eventually the conversation got around to Alabama politics which we agreed sucks.
And then he said "I don't even like to watch the news channels any more because all I see is Trump's ugly mug." (Right on, brother.)
And THEN "I voted for him. I thought he would bring change. But he's just a narcissistic asshole. I won't vote for him again."
I said "Thank you."
I hope there are lots out there just like him.

Got really "down low" smiles and thumbs up from many older white men.
Only one set of "boos" as we went by, more cheers than usual.
Zero MAGA hats. That was not the case last year or the one before.

(22,100 posts)now when rump's name comes up, nothing...they shake their heads and say nothing...
I guess what can they say? I'm not going to push them or anything like that...that they came about this negative feeling about rump on their own? Amazing transformation...

(4,919 posts)...They enjoyed "The Apprentice"... no more thought than that. And, now they regret it.
If I were a pollster I would ask that question.
Full disclosure... I enjoyed The Apprentice sometimes, but I thought Trump was pretty useless on that show.

(5,995 posts)Many assumed he had some kind of core values based on who he supported in the past (Bill & Hillary) and would return to form if elected.
They all missed the underlying psychosis that drives him to push everything to the limit, then push harder.
He's like Pavlov's dog that once rewarded will keep slobbering regardless of the real consequences.

(53,410 posts)Politics. Their thinking about it, when they even think about it, is so superficial that they have no idea of how it affects us in our daily life. They go through life taking all their benefits for granted, not understanding how they got them or that theyre losing them.
There are lot more people like that than there are like us. Were a real minority (those of us who are political junkies).

(13,776 posts)Needless to say, people who still support him are incorrigible morons who will overlook racism, pederasty, and the worst kind of anti-Christian behavior towards the poor and hungry, just because their pastors tell them that Jesus approves of it all. Or because they like tax cuts more than they like decency. They are fools.
But it's common to still hear people saying, essentially, that people who voted for Trump in 2016 deserve rains of frogs and plagues of locusts, and that because of their choice in the past they're stupid and gullible in the present, and should be shunned forevermore.
If we shun everyone who voted for him in 2016, we're not going to win in 2020.
I'm glad you had a nice conversation with that guy. That's how we win in 2020.
you go ahead and be friendly to them.
I'll keep treating them like soulless, moronic motherfuckers without a shred of decency, character, or respect for human dignity.
Which means I won't deal with them at all.

(81,197 posts)You fuckers voted for this. YOU did this. NOBODY held a gun to your head and forced you to do this. YOU did this. Voluntarily AND even eagerly. And NOW youre sorry? Youre a little late, eh? You wanted to burn it all down and/or blow it all up. Did you even bother, for a single second, what it would be like to have to go on living in the destruction and desecration and chaos that you get when you burn it all down or blow it all up?
How do those ashes taste now?
Happy now? Still gonna stick with him anyway in 2020 because you just cant bring yourself to vote for a Democrat?
Hows it workin out for ya?
I have no faith in these people. Oh they shake their heads and say theyre sorry now. But what future lies will they decide maybe theyll give him one more chance and then hope for the best?
I have a good friend who just couldnt resist the bullshit sales pitch because emails or babykillers or whatever bullshit excuses she had. And now that at least seven children have died in the lice and scabies and diapers not changed for days and filth and sickness spreading through the cages (and thats just who we know about)...
Whos the babykiller now?
Sorry. Im just so angry I dont even want to listen to these people anymore. I dont trust their conversions. All I can think of is how soon theyre gonna be taken in by Captain Forked-Tongue and fall for his fast-talking lies and assorted weasel words and bullshit promises all over again.

(5,275 posts)His hard right Neo Nazi base will stick with Orange Twitler no matter what, including shooting someone on 5th Avenue, but the rest of his 2016 supporters are, largely women, especially College educated ones, bailing big time. Heard a pollster say the other day that he is seeing a 2020 Blue Wave that will eclipse the 2018 one. From his lips.....
And if Mr 1776 airports does lose hope he is met leaving, in January 2021, by Law Authorities.
I cannot express how much I detest that man.

(32,620 posts)A lot of people would have voted D last time, except they didn't like Hillary for whatever reason. Maybe it was hate radio/Fox News brainwashing. It breaks my heart to say this because I always loved Hillary, and I became a Democrat just so I could vote for her in the primary.
But there are a lot of independents - unaffiliated voters - who just decide on a whim and aren't too invested in the outcome. Those are the people (many of them) who went for Chump in 2016, and they won't do it again. They have DEEP REGRETS, and I'll bet many aren't willing to admit how stupid they were before.
Our Party needs to find a way to reach these indifferent & noncommittal voters, the independents who don't care too much for politics. But they can make the difference in the next election. Our candidate must be the person who reaches out and motivates those independents.

(1,103 posts)changed their opinion of him. One fellow called in---said he and wife make a visit to a major university hospital complex once a year. Upon arriving this year and having scanned the channel choices and found that out of the many listed, Fox was missing. They asked a lady in the lobby why the omission. Upon noticing they weren't complaining---just wanted to know-- she said that the hospital had realized that especially in the evenings when Fox was on patients' blood pressures would go up, they were not getting better and many, in fact, were getting sicker! They then eliminated the channel thru out their system. This was in a very red state.
