"Blue lives matter" flag. After the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting, the victims were honored before the that night's hockey game. The Pgh chief of police brought one out on the ice and held it up. Despite the heroic actions of the cops, including a few who were injured in the line of duty, I didn't think it was appropriate given that 11 worshippers, not cops, were killed.

There is also a version with a lighter blue stripe replacing one of the white ones that is the "thin blue line for police." The links I could find for each were to right wing sites, so I will not post them here. I suspect they are for right wing personnel in each type of service.

I wonder how those assholes would feel if someone showed up at the funeral of a cop who was shot and killed in the line, and started yelling: ALL Lives Matter!"

The thin red line stripe is supposed to be for firemen, and the blue stripe flag came first as a sign of support for police. Timing-wise, it always seemed to be an “all cops’ lives matter” response to growing anger over the shooting/murder of unarmed black people. It apparently was in response to targeting of police officers, so I understand the initial sentiment. However, the thin blue line flag has been co-opted by white supremacists.

We live on the northern edge of L.A. civilization and there are lots of redneck types with big lifted pickups that never get dirty. So many of them have the blue stripe cop flag sticker, along with AR-15 stickers, giant U.S. flags posted in the bed or some 2nd Amendment bullshit. I’m sure they’re not all racist just like not all lifted trucks are driven by rednecks. However, it seems to have become the de facto equivalent to a MAGA hat or even a confederate flag, that is considered more socially acceptable. You don’t see that stuff nearly as much as you get nearer to downtown L.A., the beach areas, etc.

And I absolutely consider it flag desecration.

Not everything is racist. Plenty of people have these as pro police / pro firefighter, and nothing more.

But plenty of things are... even if we pretend otherwise to better assuage out own conscience.

My family member saw it flying in a National Park campground and wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of Proud Boy thing.

Thanks for the tips.
