4.6 magnitude earthquake hits Seattle

The Seattle area was hit by an earthquake early Friday. The quake had a magnitude of 4.6 and hit just before 3 a.m. according to the Seattle Times, which cited the the U.S. Geological Survey.

The shaking came from Three Lakes, Wash., about 40 miles northeast of Seattle, but could reportedly be felt all the way to the Canadian border. No tsunami alert was reported.

The quake originated about t 14 miles beneath the surface, according to the paper. A second earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5, was reported near Monroe, Wash., minutes later.

The event follows two large earthquakes in California last week.
