so to avoid the long delay associated with that sort of litigation (even when the committee is 100% in the right, it still takes a while to fight that in court), the committee will often negotiate/come to an agreement with the witness on the terms of the appearance -- even for people appearing in response to a subpoena. By agreeing to some limit on the extent of their testimony, the committee secures what testimony they do get with less of a fight/faster.

Secretary Clinton's 14 hour performance was, in part, an intentional performance on her part to show the Repukes, and the country, that she wasn't scared or bothered by them. She had nothing to hide, she could handle all their questions -- whether legitimate or tin-foil-hatted -- without breaking a sweat. By engaging in that 14 hour hearing the way she did, she turned the tables on them.

Doesn't force testimony..doesn't dictate time, doesn't give big authority to anyone....

We have a shot....a court order to compel testimony....but by the time that works through the courts..to SCOTUS....Biden or Harris or Sanders or I'll be POTUS

doesn’t have to show up and testify, remember when Carl Rove was subpoenaed? He never showed up to answer questions; if Congress wants someone to actually show up, then Congress likely will play nice with them

anyone show up to a congressional hearing to testify; oh sure, they can send the seargent-at-arms to arrest you, but that never happens.

both Judiciary and Intell committees on the same day. It's better if the committees could question Mueller on seperate days.

Congress, the. Proceed with impeachment inquiry and vote on articles of impeachment and if passed by majority, send to the Senate where McConnel can sit on it as no time limit is mandated. The disgraced of being impeached does not go away from your history/legacy.
Since democrats have failed to go this route, trump admin officials have no facing zero downside until Pelosi finds some guts.
