(101,267 posts)Both sides 241 after 50 overs. The "super over" - 1 extra over - 6 balls - for each side to be used for the first time ever in the World Cup.

(101,267 posts)England win because they scored more boundaries in the main match. This is like saying basketball scores are level, even after extra time, so you count how many 3-point scores each got.
England scored 6 off a ball in the last-but-one over because the fielder's throw in bounced off the batsman's bat as he reached to avoid getting run out (if he did that on purpose it'd be illegal, but it came from behind him - I'm not sure I'm seen it happen before), and ricocheted all the way to the boundary, which converted 2 runs into 6. England's bowler for the super over was Jofra Archer - just 24, and in his first year for England, because he was born in the West Indies. No pressure, then. His Wikipedia entry explains:
"Archer has an English father, and British passport, but initially was not eligible to play for England until the winter of 2022. ... However, in November 2018, the ECB announced a change to its rules, reducing the eligibility period from seven years to three to bring it into line with ICC regulations. And won the World Cup."
