How do you rate Ryan's 'speech'?

I never heard so many lies in one speech especially on Medicare and about the factory in Janesville closing--it CLOSED UNDER BUSH AND RYAN HAD BEEN CALLED ON THIS BEFORE. But these assholes don't care how much they lie and think they can get away with it.

I give this speech an F. I think it's mean spirited and surly nature made for an awful debut for Ryan to a big national audience.

It was a good convention speech given to a friendly audience. He was supposed to deliver applause lines, and he did. He was supposed to feed them red meat, and he served it up.

But if you start fact checking it, there's almost not a word of truth in there. He blasts Obama for walking away Simpson-Bowles, when Ryan did the same thing.

Over and over and over again. Lies, lies, lies.

his presentation was a solid B. Not bad, not great. Not a great speaker, but not incompetent.

Tbh, Sarah Palin gave a much better speech presentation-wise.

we were always told to rate a speech on both delivery and factually.

Delivery it is the best of the convention so far. He'd get an B to A.

Now factually... F... there were a few MAJOR fibs.

I did particularly like the Central Planners line... that was magnificent... Obama = Joseph Stalin, but hey, if your goddess is Ayn Rand...

But from the point of view of delivery, that was good.

My Speech teacher used to tell us, an effective speech has both elements. So she'd probably give Ryan D+, or less. He did actually have a funny joke near the end. That actually would raise his grade.

And this is what makes Ryan dangerous. He is an effective (even if a confirmed liar) speaker.

As a local political reporter I need to look at things not just from the partisan POV, but how effective the person giving the a speech can be with the intended and not intended audience.

Thankfully... the viewership for this convention has not been that high.

I know that partisans will catch the lies... fast... but think of the middle of the road voter (not that many of them actually, not in a base election, which this is)... will take a well delivered speech. Most of those voters will NOT go fact check it. This is where media matters.

He even was funny.

And that is what makes him so damn dangerous.

It's up to Obama to make the democratic argument. Ryan laid the Republican approach out pretty well so it is now a matter of what people believe will move things forward. I like that he raised the Republican's game because I was wanting more from our side and I think we will be compelled to lay out a competing vision.

Ryan's speech insulted my intelligence AND insulted me personally. I know this stuff works on some fraction of the people and it was a "good" conservative speech. But if you understand what he's saying, it is personally insulting. This guy shut down the government and lowered the countries credit rating over a vote he had made countless times under Bush, yet wants to lecture Obama, Democrats and the American people. Then like Christie his sit down grown up talk is nothing but lies, school yard bullying and BS, it is insulting. When's the last Republican that treated me like I was an equal or even just an adult?
