A minor league baseball team celebrated their Pride Night with free Chick-fil-A sandwiches

A minor league baseball team ran a promotion that involved Chick-fil-A on their Pride Night.

The Pawtucket Red Sox held a Pride Night last Friday to celebrate their LGBTQ fans.

But apparently they didn’t see any contradiction between that and holding a promotion for Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain that has donated millions over the years to anti-LGBTQ organizations.

The promotion was that if someone caught a foul ball during the game, then everyone in the stadium would get a coupon for a free sandwich. And someone caught a foul ball.

Reminds me of the time the university I worked for offended Jewish students and parents by planning "Parent's Weekend" on Rosh Hashana, then were planning to make it up to them by having a pig-pickin' on Yom Kippur. No, I am not kidding. Being I was the only Jew on a staff of over 300, when I was siting in a staff meeting and told what has planned, I burst out laughing, thinking it was a joke. I was lectured for my unprofessional "outburst", to which I explained, "I thought you were making a joke." My supervisor was confused, so I explained the many things wrong with the plan (pork is not kosher, Yom Kippur is one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar, and Jews fast on that day), to which she abruptly ended our meeting and raced to the office of the Director of Student Affairs; turns out minutes before a mass mailing was about to take place.

Never underestimate ignorance!

Sounds more like trolling/malice than ignorance. RW a-holes frequently try to "trigger the libs." nt RockRaven Jul 2019 #1

to draw attention to the company's well known anti-LGBTQ rights position and mock them for it.

"I do not approve of Chick-fil-A's politics, but I kind of approve of their chicken"

Mayor Pete is smart enough to know two things:

1) Dan Cathy is dead.

2) Our side won in the battle for equal marriage.

And, clearly, he's had one of their sandwiches, which I feel are better than the average fast-food out there, especially in the chicken department. Yes, they support Xtian athletic charities that have old homophobic views in their charters, but I'd bet that most of the athletes know a gay or lesbian person and are not anywhere near as uptight as the old farts running the charities.

At some point, the coots will die off, and they and their policies will be replaced by people who are OK with other people's orientations, and Pete can see that far down the road.

You would think that someone on that staff of over 300 would have had the brilliant idea of asking you about it before made preparations. Kind of like this story: one would think they could ask around to see which sandwich place was LGBTQ friendly.
