American journalism vs TrumpWorld

Many reality-based, op-ed columnists these days have been pushed to the limit. They have to produce one or two op-ed columns a week and that's not easy. So, on occasion, some of them fall off the edge.

Want a few examples? Try these:

"Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and other candidates shouldn't be pushing Medicare for all because that's a loser for Democrats."

"The economy will be good enough for Trump to win."

"Democrats have moved too far to the left."

"Some Democratic candidates are too radical for mainstream America."

Well, I guess if you're a liberal columnist who has to produce two columns a week, you can end up slipping into a moment of verbal dementia.

I've read those above quotes, (writings which I'm paraphrasing as closely as possible), written by columnists in the NY Times, the Washington Post, and other respected newspapers throughout the country. These writers are decent human beings, trying to make a point, and are perhaps going too far in their efforts to be "fair and balanced" and demonstrate that both sides bear some guilt.

Those quotes are often taken out of context by wingnuts trying to prove the line of bullshit that "No one has clean hands." (Clean hands? What about those concentration camps at the border? What about those who embrace the supremacy of the white race?) Anyone who approves of these atrocities and the hatred of others are racists who lack human decency. And whatever mask they choose to wear at the moment, they are, for the most part, those who have chosen to be Republicans.

My guess is that some 90% plus number of Americans don't read the NY Times or the Washington Post. Nonetheless, their opinion columns and their journalistic based articles "trickle down" into the online world. What does that mean? It means that so much of what you read is the result of the efforts of investigative journalists (who are mistaken on occasion, but are mostly accurate), literally putting their lives on the line to inform Americans of the truth. They are doing everything possible to pull back the curtain and reveal the reality of "the man behind the curtain.".

Then again, you may be reading and believing the fantasies of online trolls who are trying to make the rest of the world buy into some kind of demented fantasy.

So try this. Put all of the propaganda, from both sides, aside for a moment. Close your eyes and think. There are people called Democrats who are trying to improve the world. They are trying to share the pie with everyone, including you.

Then, there are people called Republicans, who are not trying to improve the world. They want the whole pie. And fuck you and everyone else. (I'm just sharing what I see when I close my eyes for a while and think.)

But no matter what it is that you see when you close your eyes and think, here's a dose of the current horrific realty we are facing. Republicans have stumbled upon a world-class, ignorant con man whom they can hide behind. Yes, I'm talking about the orange beast who currently occupies the White House.

Most of us wonder how such an uninformed, ignorant, and utterly stupid man could have ended up there. How could some sentient being who is clueless about history, geography, art, science, math, physics, the structure and purpose of government, and literally everything else, have ended up sitting in the Oval Office making decisions that affect the entire world?

Whether or not you believe the 2016 election was stolen, we, the majority of us, those of us who are still sane , cannot allow the 2020 election to be stolen by millions of clueless people with the help of gerrymandering, voter suppression and Russians.

The future of humanity depends on the sanity of the majority defeating this madness.

It's hard I think because Democratic politicians are more independent-minded and tend to think for themselves.

But they need to play the same games the Republicans play and describe Republicans as right wing or conservative extremists, far right, etc.

We need to battle back against the Republican framing because it will be adopted by the media.
