why would Democrats need to coax the truth out of him?
This reluctant witness baloney makes him appear to be part of the cover up. Why wouldn't he want the American people to know the absolute truth? If it is to keep his reputation unsullied then he isn't a great American. He's not even a great man.
And the idea that he isn't allowed to testify about anything pertinent to the case because the White House and Justice Dept said as much has already been debunked. He no longer works for the government. He's a private citizen. If he falls in line for them then he is just another Republican traitor.

(2,187 posts)He absolutely should tell America that Barr shut him down early and blocked his attempts to interview Two Scoops and Jr. This shit will come out eventually and when it comes to pass that he could have told us but didn't, then his reputation will be sullied, forever.

(15,681 posts)when it does finally come out? I don't expect much tomorrow. And whatever does come out might be forgotten by the time Congress comes back from their summer break.

(5,264 posts)I'm not optimistic about which choice he'll make because hackery is their very nature. Moral epiphanies and redemptions are very rare among that group.

(4,192 posts)Crossing my fingers he's willing to speak out but I can't tell with him which side he's on - truth or the republican party. He doesn't have to be a liberal or a progressive, just someone who values justice over political power.

(1,810 posts)He isn't in the most enviable position. He has done well for himself, IMO. All of the good I have heard about him is still settled, IMO.
Control-Z
(15,681 posts)but saving his country should be. As it would be for any of us were we in a position to do as much.
Sure "He has done well for himself" but this is about far more than him. It is about his country and fellow citizens .
His position may not be enviable but the state of our country will be catastrophic if he doesn't stand up for it.
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)That doesn't even make sense to me.
"this is about far more than him."
It's hard to take that seriously when you say it is his job to "save the country."

(25,294 posts)I, Robert Mueller , do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)He is clearly passionate about that oath. He has already shown us that.
Control-Z
(15,681 posts)It is quite simple, isn't it? I don't understand how anyone can argue the point.

What your idea of what his job was?
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)brush
(53,467 posts)We all know trump and trump jr. should've been questioned but Barr hurried the so-called completion of the investigation.
Mueller has a chance tomorrow to circumvent all of Barr's machinations to make it seem that trump was exonerated by the report, that is what many posters are hoping for.
He doesn't work for DOJ anymore. Barr is not his boss anymore so we don't get the reluctance from him. Just by reading from his report, or agreeing with reps who read sections of his report aloud he can implicate trump.
He has a chance to do that. I hope he puts aside his "good soldier, do as you're told, life-long republican persona and put his country ahead of all of that help get trump out.
You might not think it his job, but maybe you weren't around when Republicans during Watergate thought it was their job and they put the country ahead of partisan reluctance and did the right thing. They got Nixon out.
SouthernProgressive
(1,810 posts)And its in the public portions of the report.
Mueller has a chance tomorrow to circumvent all of Barr's machinations to make it seem that trump was exonerated by the report.
He will say it again. That is a great thing.
Just by reading from his report, or agreeing with reps who read sections of his report aloud he can implicate trump.
Exactly right. The report. His job. And him talking about it is going to be great
Not sure why you followed it up with you might think its not his job.
You have now started talking about his job and I agree with you.

(10,811 posts)The only savior out there is the American public. We save ourselves. Or we don't.
There's no knight on a white horse ready to save our asses. What we do in the next 16+ months will write our story. Whether the narrative has a good or bad ending is up to us, period.

They'd rather insist that someone else do it for them while they whine about how awful everything is and everyone else isn't doing enough.

(10,811 posts)Because 2020 is going to be a referendum on Trump and Trumpism as well as the American public. What do we believe in, what do we value? No one can hide behind the 'Give Trump a Chance' mentality. He's been thoroughly exposed for the cruel, bombastic, wanna-be monarch he's always been.
If we as a society cannot get off our haunches and kick this slug to the curb? Then we'll get what we deserve: another horrific 4 years and a mortally wounded country.
Not much of a legacy for our kids or grand babies.

(4,256 posts)Great friends with Barr.
Doubt Barr would throw Mueller under bus unless with warning, consent.
Prepare to be hugely disappointed.
Ill eat fries buried in ketchup if Im wrong. (I hate HATE ketchup).

(15,681 posts)so I won't be disappointed. I will be fuming mad, though.

(3,922 posts)I totally agree with the OP and have for some time.
If Mueller knows that the #IPOTUS is in cahoots with the Russians, participated in the scam, and (obviously) continues to display anti-American behavior then why would Silent Bob not speak up in defense of his country - that he allegedly so adores.
This whole thing stinks to high heaven. We get a significantly redacted report that even the released part gets totally whitewashed by another enemy of our country, Barr. And we get a "reluctant" witness who won't say a goddamn thing tomorrow that we don't already know.
Pass the remote, honey, I'm too tired to march today.

(15,681 posts)You put it far better than I. And to think there are people who don't believe he owes us the truth. I'm thoroughly disgusted.

(22,474 posts)that means he is a traitor?
Well, myself, I don't believe that just because people do not do as I think they should do or who do not support my political point makes them a traitor. What a narrow little world some people exist in.

(18,486 posts)These stupid MFers let this man get elected president even though they knew he was unfit (or they didn't care) and I busted my ass for two years investigating him, gave them an in-depth roadmap of why he shouldn't be there but they now expect me to hold their hands and walk them through it step by step and if I don't, they're threatening to let him become president for four more years because they'll lose all their "enthusiasm" and it wi all be my fault.
What a country.

(22,474 posts)Mueller was never going to win with the Left and for any who actually were paying attention it should have been clear all along that Mueller did not believe a sitting president could be indicted and he was not going to recommend that be done.

(3,662 posts)The problem is that rethugs are trying to manage public perception to make it seem like trump is exonerated.
So Dems are trying to get the truth out there unvarnished by rethug propaganda.
