U.S. to pay $15 minimum per acre to farmers hurt by China trade war

The U.S. government will pay a minimum of $15 per acre to farmers hurt by President Donald Trump’s trade war with China under an aid package to be unveiled before the end of the week, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said on Tuesday.

“We’ll have information for you before the week ends,” Perdue told reporters when asked about the aid, which is planned to total about $16 billion.

U.S. farmers, a key Trump constituency, have been among the hardest hit in the trade war between the world’s two largest economies. Soybeans are the most valuable U.S. farm export, and shipments to China dropped to a 16-year low in 2018.

A new aid program would be the second round of assistance for farmers, after the Department of Agriculture’s $12 billion plan last year to compensate for lower prices for farm goods and lost sales stemming from trade disputes with China and other nations.

...mostly professional athletes and doctors, to buy up farmland and collect the subsidies on it.
They interviewed a professional basketball player and he said he owned 100's of acres of farmland that he has never seen, and doesn't even know which state it is in.

Some farmers in this North Central area of Indiana that farm a Couple Thousand acres or more don't get it in some cases because it turns out to be too expensive.

How it works is farmers average their grain yield over 3 years (I think but not sure) and for what this years crop does because of the dry or rainy weather will be paid accordingly. Yield vs Yield.

Some farmers in this area that were so late to get crops in just didn't plant and get $375.00 acre from crop insurance and don't touch anything. I think they can mow the fields to keep the weeds down but nothing else. Those fields will not be allowed to have a winter wheat crop planted...(this coming from the county extension office)

So Farmers got their rebates from Trump last year and will get rebates this year plus their crop insurance plus what grain yield they get.
They tried to whittle the cash rent price down (didn't work) as they whine but in all actuality they are money ahead with Trumps give a ways then spend money for seed and all other necessities that go with planting.

We lived in rural PA and had a neighbor on a farm who was paid by the government to not plant corn on his fields.
There was a surplus of corn and the government wanted to cut the national yield to increase the price of corn.
That was under the Eisenhower (R) administration.

The man owned and lived on the farm but wasn't even a farmer.
He worked in a nearby small city for the local newspaper.
