Attention DU'ers: Elvis has left the building!
Paul Ryan's speech in 3 words
(snip)
On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryans speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.
The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryans mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.
Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.
Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.
Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what the president said. Period.
Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.

(12,647 posts)I had to get some sleep shortly after posting this article in the wee hours of the morning. I'm so glad to see everyone else is as shocked as I that Fox News, freaking Fox News, told the truth for once.
Here's another bit of truth:

Xolodno
(6,390 posts)...they are starting to think Romney can't win. And if he loses the hard right is going to push even harder for a hard right candidate next time.
Now that would for sure sideline the Republican party for awhile. As it is they are trying to regain the trust of moderates and women...thats not a position you want to be in during an election.
So....they are going throw the Conservatives/Tea Party types under the bus and rebuild. And blame the loss of this election on the Conservatives for not turning out. In the end, the Conservatives will have to come around the next time because their choices will be some influence vs. no influence.

(14,180 posts)excerpts from #3:
And then theres what Ryan didnt talk about.
Ryan didnt mention his extremist stance on banning all abortions with no exception for rape or incest, a stance that is out of touch with 75% of American voters.
Ryan didnt mention his previous plan to hand over Social Security to Wall Street.
Ryan didnt mention his numerous votes to raise spending and balloon the deficit when George W. Bush was president.
Ryan didnt mention how his budget would eviscerate programs that help the poor and raise taxes on 95% of Americans in order to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires even further and increase yes, increase the deficit.

Fox rarely criticizes their candidates and never with such vehemence.
Either this blogger will be out of a job by tomorrow or there are machenations at work that we don't understand yet.

(12,647 posts)The print media isn't hesitating to call out Ryan on his lies. The question is, how is the television media reporting it? Is anyone brave enough to watch Fox News and see if their television media is talking about his lies as well? I just returned from a visit with my aging parents who must blast Fox News to hear it. A week of enduring that torture has me cringing at the thought of having listening to them again.

(322 posts)In fact, he seems kind of anti-Romney at times. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/06/us/politics/journal-critique-of-romney-shows-murdoch-doubt-on-candidacy.html?pagewanted=all
Not sure whether that's a complete apostasy or whether he thinks it will ruin the base's chances of electing another Repub, as other posters have noted.
And I forget, but a few weeks ago, didn't he come down pretty liberally on some important issue? It's a shame I can't remember.
But knowing how strong the patriarchal structure of the news corporation is. . .I wouldn't be surprised if he has started to send tentacles down to the reporting level. . .
