I'm arguing with a winger and he claims

that Romney gave away all of his inherited wealth and started out pennyless. He has aquired all of his wealth by himself. We are just jealous. He said it is well know and has been on the news. Anyone??

Got to talking jobs, he said my biggest mistake in life was I was union. Only to find out after he slipped that him and his wife worked Boeing for 20 plus years. But he claims he gets zero pension, retirement or any compensation for paying 55 bucks a month for his dues.

I see this guy almost everyday at my buddies motorcycle shop, he is a customer. I told him after I opened his eyes that he would vote Obama.

Tell him he is a bold faced liar. I point blank tell Republicans who want to spout off this kind of bullshit that they are liars and walk away.

I don't care if it makes them uncomfortable or embarasses the people around me.

I'm 39 years old. I've been listening to their twisted and insane version of reality and lies since 1980 - when they began their assault on America. So I'm not going to be a person of the lie anymore.

He lied. He wants to believe that 'lie' - then he can. But you have free speech and the right to say one word - "Liar." Then walk away.

2. Romney's inherited wealth....
Thu Aug 30, 2012, 09:17 AM
Aug 2012

He inherited the Romney name (Dad was a CEO and former Governor of Michigan)
He inherited a Romney education (Private prep school and Harvard)
He inherited Romney family friends (early clients were Dad's chums)

By the time his father died in 1995, Romney had already bilked people out of millions, so he didn't need the money. And beside, Dad was an old-fashioned businessman who didn't feel the need to amass a nine-figure net worth at other peoples' expense.

Since Romney started out with nothing and got rich, what is this guy's excuse?

You don't see Romney complaining about working some grunt job at Boeing for 20 years.

Why did your friend waste his time doing that instead of doing what Romney did?

5. He's probably lying about getting nothing as a Boeing retiree...ask him for details...

He may have taken early retirement and then Boeing screwed him and backed out on previous agreements. They have a history of reneging on their committments as do most corporations.

7. Actually, the way I think that went with Willard was
Thu Aug 30, 2012, 09:21 AM

that his parents financed him well when he was younger (college, probably $$ to start his career, etc.) & when his father died, in 1995, Willard was by then quite wealthy & donated his portion of the inheritance to Brigham Young University.

So, yes, he did give up his inheritance, but he had benefitted greatly from his father's wealth by that time--and there would almost certainly have been transfers of money from George to Willard & his siblings while George was still alive. I'm not a tax guy, but I think rich people do that a lot--pass money on to their kids before they die--in order to gain some tax advantages.

9. "Gave away his inheritance"....Romney is talking about a tax dodging scheme...a lie as usual...

With respect to Mitt Romney's inheritance, Mother Jones recently reported an interesting nugget of information. It turns out that in an earlier interview with Reuters, Mitt Romney made an telling remark:

“What I got from my parents when they passed away I gave away to charity and to my kids.”

Mother Jones points out that just passing on inherited wealth is not quite the same thing as giving it all away or “not inheriting the money at all.”

The question then arises if perhaps Mitt Romney or his father used a dynasty trust, which is a generation-skipping estate-tax exempting device that the Wall Street Journal points out is used by quite a lot of wealthier individuals.

These trusts usually provide income to the children as well, though they can't use the principal which goes to the grandchildren.

but only after he was making enough to write it off.

You'd have to be a complete fool to believe that he gave it away before he started raking it in at Bain.
