Even if he actually, in a rage, murders someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue - with witnesses - with cops on the scene - with Franklin Graham praying for the victim's soul... They would see their mothers in shackles and chains before they would turn on their beloved Leader.
So, if the Democrats are waiting on "more evidence", they are wasting our time and their time. If they don't have enough evidence right now, they will never have enough evidence.
They will be gone on summer recess for 42 days, in one of the most dangerous and critical times in our nation's history. For political reasons, they cannot make a decision about Mr Trump. Speaker Pelosi is absolutely correct that it would divide the country. But Donald Trump will divide the nation as much as he possibly can before the next election anyway. To worry about "dividing the country" should be the least of our worries.
What will they gain if they impeach Mr Trump and then lose the election? What will they gain if they don't impeach Mr Trump and still lose the election? When you "cross the Rubicon", you cannot go back. Has the decision already been made? Have they already crossed the Rubicon ?

(10,870 posts)I always suspected there was a huge amount of closet bigots, racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobe, etc. out there.
This country may not deserve saving.
November 2020 is our last chance.

(111,079 posts)The only charge was for "unfitness" for the office of the President. Which should have been enough, but there was nothing from the Mueller Report, or about Stormy Daniels, or about being in bed with the Russians, and lying about it, or making huge bucks off foreign sources, etc.

(9,006 posts)Such as Trump's taxes and other financial docs, testimony from Don McGhan could be helpful, the redacted portions of the Meuller report have yet to be revealed, not to mention some of the matters sent to the SDNY, and info on the Russian hacking is still out there.
All this "you have to impeach NOW" garbage is just that. Pundits who all seem to be on the same page should have no bearing on the timing of impeachment.

there are not 67 votes to convict, presently. Crooked Donald would run for reelection on his "acquittal". Many people that thought "Impeach" meant something will get fed up with "the system" and quit voting.

He's going to do that anyway even without an impeachment.

(111,079 posts)...that could be the moment that Pelosi and Schiff are looking for?
That could be the magic bullet.
Just think of what we are now accepting as "normal"...

(12,863 posts)There is already more than enough evidence to convict, in the context of why the impeachment clause is in our Constitution.
Pelosi is making political calculations about the court of public opinion, the votes in her own caucus, and how all of this will impact the 2020 election.
There is much more room for reasonable doubt as to how this might play out politically than there is about Trump's guilt for high crimes and misdemeanors.
Personally, I think the House has a duty to impeach. To do otherwise is to tacitly accept Trump's crimes as normal politics.
When in doubt, DO THE RIGHT THING.
