https://thehill.com/homenews/house/455013-pelosi-slams-trumps-racist-attacks-on-cummings".@RepCummings is a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague," Pelosi tweeted. "We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership."
Pelosi's condemnation came in response to a series of tweets in which Trump accused Cummings of being a "brutal bully" and claimed his Baltimore district was FAR WORSE and "more dangerous" than the southern border.

Cummingss district is the second-most wealthy and educated of Maryland's majority-black districts. The attack from Trump followed statements by Cummings in which he called the treatment of migrant children in U.S. facilities government-sponsored child abuse.

(14,898 posts)The media is letting Trump off the hook, whether incidentally or purposely, by characterizing this as an attack on Cummings in their headlines and soundbites.
Trump is attacking, in an overtly racist way, the people Cummings represents. He's doing it knowingly and purposely, and the media is carrying water for Trump in the way they cover these comments.

(11,725 posts)The first step in maltreatment and eventual genocide is to dehumanize the target. People will not typically carry out violence unless they see the targets as less than human.
That is why enemy combatants have historically been given dehumanizing nicknames like "the Hun" or "Japs", or "Gooks" or "Rag Heads" & "Hajis".
Why the Hutu leadership started calling the Tutsi's "Cockroaches" prior to the Rowandan Genocide. Obviously why the Nazis made all of those disgusting caricatures of Jewish people and as Trump did today with Black people, linked them with vermin and infestation.
Trump is deliberately dehumanizing people of color and women.

(17,081 posts)Once the target population has been dehumanized as rodents, insects, and infestations, then the process of wholesale elimination can be addressed up-front and more efficiently. The current methods of neglect, abuse, drug & weapon flooding, and economic terrorism aren't reaching their peak goals quickly enough.

(54,277 posts)So-called moderate Republicans need to take a stand and say, like Bill Weld, my partys president is an incompetent, boorish asshole, or else admit that they belong to a party that no longer has their support.
