An estimated 22.3 million people tuned in to watch the opening night of the 2012 Republican National Convention on Tuesday, August 28, which was pushed back a day due to Hurricane Isaac. [...]

The 22 million plus viewers of last night’s RNC—which included three more networks than the comparable night in 2008—bested that night by 800,000 viewers.

Now look at this:

Persons 18-34 2.2 1,483,000 viewers
Persons 35-54 6.7 5,414,000 viewers
Persons 55+ 18.8 14,661,000 viewers

I suspect our numbers will be similar. It's more about who watches what on TV than anything else. Heck, my 22-year-old daughter and her friends don't watch TV at all, though they do watch news clips on line.

EDIT: Actually, I don't know why I'm using my kid as an example; I won't watch our convention, either. I'll read the speeches the next day, and maybe watch clips of the best ones, but I can't see devoting an evening to that kind of political theater, even from my own party. I'll be curled up with a good book, I'm sure.
