"So, yeah, I'm far away in Spain. Barcelona, to be precise, on a much-needed escape from the intense fuckery of the Trump administration. It's a goddamn paradise on that account. Unlike the UK, I haven't seen a single piece of protest art (or, and this is entirely unlikely at all, supportive art) mentioning or picturing our dumb motherfucker of a president. Nothing. No graffiti. No signs. No posters. Not a goddamned word stenciled anywhere. You got that, Donald Trump? Nobody fucking thinks about you here. Nobody fucking cares about you. They have other shit to do and worry about, like Catalan independence and that kind of shit."

Ain't it great that there's a civilized, European country that is totally ignoring the existence of a man who is trying to become the greatest buffoon in recorded history.

(9,116 posts)I travel a lot. And when I travel, I get talking to people. Usually in airports.
Nobody asks me about Trump anymore. I guess they figure there's no point; the kind of American who'd visit your country probably ain't the sort who'd vote for Trump anyway.

(11,728 posts)We tend to think that everyone else in the world is on pins and needles about our business. It would make some sense the people hear about what is going on in the US because we are the largest economy in the world, and we have a ton of nuclear weapons, but it is definitely our own egoism that makes us think that people are hanging on our every word.

(2,535 posts)When I went to Europe in the summer of 2001(thats before 9/11) I was surprised by how much I got good vibes for being American. The last time I had been in France, for instance, was right after De Gaulle had pulled out of NATO and the French economy was going through some major inflation. Mucho bad vibes. After Clinton we got the good vibes.
Franco was still alive. So much for Spain then.

(6,110 posts)I was there right before the election, and they cared a lot about Trump then. Same then elsewhere in Europe at that time. Now they are all fatigued much like we are.
