Trump's military insults are piling up
Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump's attack on the Navy SEAL commander who oversaw the raid against Osama bin Laden is drawing new attention to the seesaw dynamic of a President who lavishes praise on the military even as he goes after its leaders and heroes.
The President dismissed the highly respected Adm. William McRaven as a "Hillary Clinton fan" and backer of former President Barack Obama in a Sunday interview...
The President has insulted war heroes, prisoners of war, Gold Star families and, some critics say, tried to use the troops to score political points. He's directed 5% cuts at Veterans Affairs, which for some time he left in the control of non-veterans who happened to be members of his Mar-a-Lago club.
He's neglected to visit combat zones, unlike other presidents, suggested troops' midterm election ballots not be counted, passed up Veterans Day ceremonies other leaders made time to attend and repeatedly said he knows more about military issues than generals do. https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/19/politics/trump-military-insults-compliments/index.html

Trump rips McCain on veterans: 'Didn't get the job done'
WASHINGTON President Donald Trump hit the late Sen. John McCain with a fresh attack Wednesday, hammering the former prisoner of war as weak on veterans issues and griping about the Arizona Republican's funeral during a speech at an Army tank plant in Lima, Ohio.
"McCain didnt get the job done for our great vets at the VA and they knew it," Trump said, arguing that's why he won support from military veterans during the 2016 election after calling into question the longtime senator's service record. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-rips-mccain-veterans-didn-t-get-job-done-n985541
Trump cancels First World War memorial visit to US cemetery because of 'poor weather'
Donald Trumps visit to a First World War cemetery was called off by the White House because of poor weather.
The US leader was set to visit the Aisne-Marne American cemetery in the French village of Belleau the site of a 1918 battle in which the Americans and French repelled German forces. More than 1,800 Americans died there.
David Frum, the former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, said he thought it was incredible that the US president would travel to France and not pay his respects to US soldiers.
Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser under President Barack Obama, said the White Houses excuse about logistical difficulties caused by the weather did not make sense. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-paris-latest-cancels-memorial-visit-us-military-cemetery-remembrance-world-war-one-a8627571.html

Trump Awards Himself the Presidential Medal of Freedom
BEDMINSTER, N.J. During an extravagant ceremony at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club and resort on Sunday, President Donald J. Trump bestowed upon himself the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, for doing what he referred to as a tremendous job since taking office on January 20, 2017.
This is long overdue, folks. Long overdue, President Trump declared as he proudly draped the gold medal around his neck. http://realnewsrightnow.com/2018/08/trump-awards-himself-the-presidential-medal-of-freedom/
