NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd on Thursday suggested that Democrats wish they had the diversity that the GOP was showcasing at this years Republican National Convention.
During a discussion on MSNBC about vice presidential nominee Paul Ryans Wednesday night speech, host Joe Scarborough noted that far fewer Republicans from the South had addressed the convention than in previous years.
By the way, Democrats wish they had the diversity of speakers and deep bench to show America, Todd asserted. When you think about the Democrats finding they wanted a keynote speaker that was Hispanic and they had to dig inside a red state to find an Hispanic mayor, where last night (New Mexico Gov.) Susana Martinez (spoke). Before that, we had (Nevada Gov.) Brian Sandoval, (Florida Sen.) Marco Rubio, (Texas Senate candidate) Ted Cruz.
One thing the Republican Party has is a lot of elected officials to help deal with this issue of going against the grain on the fact that theyre mostly a white their support base is a white, southern part of the party, he added. The face of the Republican Party the elected leaders Democrats wish they had that diversity.

(11,936 posts)That pretty much trumps EVERYTHING.
But if you want to get picky about it, the vast majority of minorities who serve in Congress are Democrats. And we have mayors and governors all across the country who are minorities. Our guy appointed the first latino to the Supreme Court.

Marr
(20,317 posts)The only "diversity" on display are the very occasional token stage presences, who are certainly *not* reflected in the audience.

(5,045 posts)Sounds like there's some projection there if Chuck Todd is NBC's chief political correspondent. Now THAT'S a weak bench.

(39,451 posts)With a handful of exceptions, their entire audience was white.
Why don't you compare that to who will be in the audience next week.
And then compare the people at the top of the ticket.
Why don't you get back to me in a couple weeks about which party has more diversity.
