McDonald's employee fired after telling paramedic they wouldn't serve 'his kind'

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — A McDonald's employee was fired after turning away paramedics Wednesday night. Anthony Quinn, a paramedic with Sun Star Inc., claimed in a Facebook review of the Madeira Beach McDonald's that he and his partner were denied service at the restaurant.

In his review, Quinn said that he went in to use the bathroom when the employee told him that the restaurant "doesn't accept officers in here." When Quinn told the employee he wasn't an officer, the employee said he wouldn't serve "anyone with a badge."

Later, Quinn says his partner went to order and the employee said he wouldn't serve "his kind."

Casper's the company that runs the McDonald's location, released the following statement.

"We are aware of the unfortunate incident that took place at one of our restaurants last night. We, like you, were upset and disappointed and took immediate action. The employee has been terminated. What occurred does not reflect the values of our brand, our franchise, or the love and admiration we have demonstrated consistently for our friends in law enforcement and first responders. We have reached out to offer our sincerest apology."

It doesn't matter that a black, immigrant, or cop may have committed some crime somewhere, some time. Prejudging other blacks, immigrants or cops on that basis is EVIL.

It doesn't even matter if the group targeted is statistically more like to be "bad". Prejudging individuals is evil.

Sure, if a zombie looking person is coming toward you muttering something about brains, perhaps you cross the street as a matter of self-preservation. That's different.

simply because they are Republicans?
Certainly, being a Republican is not a permanent condition like being Black, but
there are those prejudiced against people because of their religion and belief in a religion is not necessarily permanent.

Perhaps somebody could remake the classic movie "The Defiant Ones" with Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier and instead of black and white escaped prisoners chained together have it be a Republican and a Democrat.

Fri Aug 2, 2019, 01:27 PM

Playing devil's advocate should not be taken too far.

We all rail against groups of people for certain group characteristics. Discussing group characteristics is not prejudice when it is supported by facts. Where assertions are made that are not facts, then it is just plain wrong to argue without facts.

Prejudice occurs when an INDIVIDUAL is pre-judged as 'bad' in some way exclusively for being member of a group. For example if Abel meets Baker and they chat and Baker says he is a {jew/muslim/christian} and Abel says "I don't talk to shit like you" and walks away, that is prejudice. Or Abel sees Charlie with a different skin color and crosses the road to avoid walking past, that is also prejudice.

Because it has been applied to an INDIVIDUAL.

Calling generic Republicans RepubliCons as I do because too many of them engage in a propagandistic con game against suckers (including lying) is not prejudice because it is not an individual. When some of us (me included) call christians sheep because they ignore facts that fly in the face of their belief, we are discussing a characteristic that is very common among them and even typical of many of them; that is not prejudice like it would be if we immediately labeled an individual person a sheep just based on the sole fact that they are a christian (some christians think deeply about their beliefs and are nuanced). When we call tRump a con (confidence trickster, con man, convict to-be-some-day), we are basing that on the facts of his career. That is also not prejudice.

who was a former LA County Sheriff deputy explain to me the reasoning behind the cops and donut shop thing. She told me that unlike other restaurants (at that time..this was the mid 90s) donut shops had the single person restrooms so it was preferred as an officer would be in there solo, could lock the door behind them, and could take off their gun belt without a chance of someone messing with it, or worse.

Gatorade, Powerade, they're all terrible for you. No one is forcing them to drink it. At least not directly. They're being coerced by advertising into thinking these beverages healthy, and they're not. I see the ill effects of it every day in my clinic.

I suppose I shouldn't care if cops want to be obese and unhealthy. But as long as they're at least paying lip service to 'protecting and serving', I should be concerned about their health.

They are going to latch on to this like wild dogs (because the employee will, obviously, be a Leftist ) and need to be told that this is what happens when you allow employees in a public serving position to deny service to thier customers based on an objection of conscience. ...whether you agree with the employee or not. Based on the new rules, I'm perfectly fine with it.

Or his partner partner ... would be pertinent info as to what kind of prejudice was actually in play here.

Could be that at first the employee fronted with a different 'excuse' from the one he really 'meant'.

Again, my assessment depends on what sort of partner it was.
