Trump defended the White House's vetting process on Friday, calling it "great," but telling reporters, "you vet for me. I like when you vet."
He added: "We save a lot of money that way."
A senior GOP aide expressed surprise that the White House had not set up a war room with experienced communications professionals to run a rapid response and messaging operation for such a high-profile nomination that might have been able to prepare for, and respond to, the inevitable criticism of Ratcliffe's record.
"It kind of shows that this whole thing was slapped together from Trump watching TV," the aide said.
That single quote pretty much sums up the Trump presidency.

(32,080 posts)is slapped together from watching TV. It's going to take decades to recover from this knee-jerk bullshit.

(8,964 posts)and not a "war" room. Leaping first prior to looking at consequence runs contrary to strategizing, putting said leaper in immediate excuse mode. And as Ben Franklin once said, one that is good at making excuses is seldom good for anything else.

(50,895 posts)The ones doing the vetting already are being paid and it shouldn't be that difficult to gather the information.

(1,009 posts)a clip on the news yesterday with him saying Radcliffe was out because of the fake news...and a tweet, something about lamestream media and Radcliffe. So he talks out of both sides of his ass.

(24,259 posts)Shocking right?
And yet his cult followers keep buying what he's selling while sipping the Kool-Aid. What really scary is I'm very sure that some of them would mass murder and/or 'Jonestown' if he told them to do it.

(1,009 posts)Some of them would also literally drink the cyanide koolaid themselves. I think there is a portion who are outright racists and know what he is all about, and then you have the others who are seeing an entirely different universe framed by Fox News and have no clue what he is up to. The latter are the people we need to reach out to with the truth.

(25,242 posts)Trump gets all his direction from TV. He'll listen to the talking heads pontificate as to what Trump can do in a particular situation and then he'll proceed with doing what they suggest.
Listening to enough talking heads one gets all kinds of advice as to how they would handle a situation.
Trump is running his presidency by consensus of talking heads suggestions and advice.
If he reviews posts here on DU he might get other ideas as well.
We all should have learned a long time ago - to keep our mouths shut and our comments to ourselves.
For example - after the last debate. Many of the talking heads and a lot of us here on DU commented that the Dems criticized Obama more than Trump. Then guess what? At his rally in Ohio - he said that to the crowd.
And we ask why his followers believe him? Well because he has the backup of the talking heads that said the same thing in their analysis of the debate. He gets reinforcement and uses it.
When will we learn?

(11,986 posts)I've seen speculation that this is the kind of thing he was looking for, a high profile appointment, that his tactics are out of ambition. But in this case, I think he didn't want a job where might actually have to really work (i.e. maybe he's lazy), or really have responsibility for things with serious consequences (maybe he's self-aware enough to realize he's a bit of a hack).
