Well, well, well. Trump's a lyin' again!
On Friday, President Donald Trump abruptly withdrew the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) to take over from Dan Coats as Director of National Intelligence. He blamed the media frenzy for making the nomination untenable, as commentators had scrutinized his lack of qualifications and his fudged claims about prosecuting terrorists.
Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people, Trump explained in his tweet withdrawing Ratcliffe.
But according to The Daily Beast, there may have been another reason Trump changed course on the nomination. An email was reportedly sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee outlining Ratcliffes role in a whistleblower case.
The details of the allegation are vague due to national security concerns, but the email alleges that Ratcliffe promoted a company accused of being instrumental in the reprisal against a whistleblower and their cybersecurity efforts, noted The Daily Beast. The government employee facing retaliation is currently being represented by the Government Accountability Project. A source who has seen the whistleblowers disclosure also noted that Ratcliffes third-largest campaign donor in this election cycle is a company that forced the shutdown of a critical government cybersecurity office.
Republicans who read this email reportedly had grave concerns, putting Ratcliffes nomination in jeopardy.

(79 posts)Because the DNI reports directly to the AG. This would create a path to undermine The IC and weaponize it to go after Trumps political enemies. This is straight out of the Authoritarian playbook.

Maybe that position should be removed from authority of AG. I suspect the AG has too much power to wield for his master.

(15,181 posts)This is a very strong statement but I think it is true.
Anyone who can't support a platform that repudiates trump and the repuglicons is supporting actions against our country. That includes the apathetic, the "hate Hilary/Obama" crowd, the greens/olives, the independents who just want to be free.

(6,916 posts)I would even go that far.

(15,181 posts)I never thought I would actually say this.
Voting for a non-winnable candidate against the democrats is like voting for repuglicons.
I think this horrible election situation with binary parties is wrong. Money in politics including horse-races and M$M ratings is wrong.
But until we can make running for a federal position truly free of invested interests, anyone allying themselves with a non-dem candidate is hurting our chances.
Wish it was different/better.
