This is the talking point all the right wingers are parroting this weekend.
Odd that the bunch who never misses an opportunity to cut funds for mental health care now uses mental illness as an excuse for not acting on gun control.
Odd that mental illness doesn't lead to mass shooting in other countries.
Odd that only white supremacist males are afflicted with this incurable mass shooter mental illness.
Odd that Trump and his ilk who blast Baltimore and Chicago for being s-hole murder capitals never explain those shootings away as mental illness.

(82,383 posts)Also I wonder suppose we took that very seriously? It could impact on freedom a lot more than turning in the guns. Introverts and those without friends would be suspected and followed very closely or restricted.

And don't let them fool you. They are spreading ideas in their own household that supports these extreme actions.

(35,038 posts)Why don't they try do mass shootings with bananas or hair dryers?
And they seem to know who they are shooting... Dylann Roof said he was shooting at black people, this latest guy said he wanted to shoot Mexicans.
None of these mass shooters ever seem to indicate they were shooting at the animated triangles who cleverly took human disguises and are invading from the 43rd dimension.

It's the guns, you lying ass republicans who will do anything to maintain your NRA income, even if it means killing innocent children.

(58,785 posts)that strong conservatives have always pushed. We know very well what we can do, of course, because it's been done for many years wherever socially advanced and responsible governments are in charge. None of us are wringing our hands helplessly.
But strong conservatives, driven by the punitiveness intrinsic to their nature, constantly push their belief, frustrated truth to them, that anything less than bloody vengeance is effectively doing nothing. Much as Christianity has become liberalized, punitiveness embedded in conservative guts and in religion for millennia still rules many. If God feels eternal damnation in fiery torment is appropriate punishment for almost anyone - no excuses allowed, who are we to say He's wrong? Or dare to deny His righteousness by imagining we should do different? That way lies heresy.

(17,276 posts)Are radicalized white men mentally ill or not--for sure they are troubled.
But I'm sure troubled white men exist in all countries in the developed world. It's access to guns that make them a problem to society. That makes them dangerous.
If they were merely unable to get an assault rifle but only a single shot handgun, even that would be better than this.

they should all be locked up for Psychiatric evaluations.
That is why Reagan closed the Mental hospitals, so republicans could continue voting and shooting voters.
