Just yesterday I was feeling grateful to live in Dayton, where we just had 100,000 people attend the Celtic Festival, free and open to the public, with no barriers to entry or exit, and never a hint of violence. It's a sleepy town, though often rough and tumble on the outskirts. We're a sanctuary city and have welcomed a ton of Mexican and Turkish immigrants over the past few decades. Everyone I've met who's visiting for the first time comments about the friendliness of the city.
I live two blocks from the Oregon District. I looked out the window to see that the district is blocked off, then read the news. My illusions are shattered. I'm devastated. I have no doubt that I know many of the people sitting at the Ned Pepper's patio last night. I worked with the owner, who just recently passed away. I'll find out through the day how everyone's doing.
Fuck this shit all to hell.
