13. Killing two birds with one stone is not unknown, neither is the concept of mixed motives. Though

we don’t know all the facts yet, the incident can be both an example of domestic violence and racial hatred. For all we know, the prime motive could have been domestic. In any case, we do see that many mass murderers kill family members.

The Gilroy mass murderer killed Hispanics and whites. In his mind, whites attending the festival were Silicon Valley “types.” He probably also was motivated by a desire to kill people who were
having fun and family time together as he himself was a rejected loner.

I hope we don’t feel the need for all mass shootings to fit one particular narrative. There can be complex motives.
