Chuck Schumer
@SenSchumer
To @SenateMajLdr McConnell, we say: #EnoughIsEnough
Stop blocking gun safety reforms over 90% of Americans support
Gavel the Senate into emergency session to take immediate action on the bipartisan, House-passed universal background checks legislation

(18,837 posts)...I posted this "to support Schumer." I didn't suggest that "I" would have him do "more." I posted it without comment, other than saying that he "called him out," which he did.
So while I understand what you posted, if you're directing at me personally, I don't understand how you read a lack of support or "that's not enough" in what I posted.
So, for the record, I just cleared that up.

(32,754 posts)so many here are so quick to climb on our dem leaders. Many do so out of frustration which is understandable, but unfair. Was just wanting to point out to any that posted to your OP that Schumer is doing all he can
Again, my apologies

(15,805 posts)Can a background check pull up these radicalized killers writings, their racist manifestos and bigoted screeds, and deny them guns on the basis of their hate and prejudices?
No. So how is that going to prevent the next white power whacko from buying an arsenal of military style weapons and set off to kill whatever minority group he's conflated into the boogie man du jour?

(11,518 posts)Is that what you're saying? Sorry, I don't buy it. We need to make progress whenever we can, even if it doesn't get us to the finish line.

(15,805 posts)Get a background check bill passed if that in your bucket. Then what? You still have these crazy Republicans passing state laws to allow everyone to carry a gun without any permits. They want the mentally ill, wife beaters, felons, anyone who can still breathe to get -- and use -- guns.
Nothing will stop them until there's a Democratic majority willing to pass strong gun control and public safety laws. It's a terrible quandary no matter what we try to do.

(11,295 posts)But you will agree that we have to start somewhere? This is a tactic to turn the heat up on McConnell and the Rs. The timing is right to draw attention to a Senate that is doing little or nothing .. holding up a multitude of House passed legislation, including on gun control. Of course, there is little real chance of passage on any gun control measure at this point. But it can be used to advantage.

(7,402 posts)That bill would not have stopped either of yesterday's terrorist rampages from happening because both shooters passed the background check. You have to get rid of the semi-automatic assault rifles and the high capacity magazines. You need to bring back the Brady Bill with a few tweaks to correct deficiencies in that bill. And you need a buyback program for existing weapons that would be banned under the new law.

(205,161 posts)He had a whole series calling out senators and representatives who opposed gun reform legislation even though an overwhelming percentage of their constituents supported it.
With 79% of North Dakota residents in favor of Background Checks, the NRAs "A+" Stooge John Thune voted against them.
