What group has fewer Constitutional protections than criminals?

The mentally ill. The group who are far more often the victims of crime than criminals.

Criminals get due process, get to see an attorney, someone who will advocate for them. They get to go to court and see a judge.
The mentally ill don't have those rights.
They don't see a judge but a judge's signature can allow the police to go to their homes and drag them away without explanation.

This happened to my daughter who is mentally ill. The police came in her house one morning, knocked on her bedroom door and when she opened it after being awoken from sleep they dragged her outside, threw her on the ground, and handcuffed her. From there they took her to the hospital where they strapped her down and sedated her and then sent her across the state to a mental hospital.
I only heard about it 2 days later when she called me and begged me to get her out.

Now Trump wants make the mentally ill the patsys and fall-guys for mass shootings.
Well, if hate is a mental illness, then he is right.
But what he is really doing is what dictators do and that's to use mental illness as a pretext to confine people in mental institutions without the need for any pretense of due process.

He may indeed be blaming mental illness. That's probably an easy sell since it's undoubtedly true that virtually every mass shooting (if not every) involves someone with serious mental illness.

But it's our side of the fence that is most likely to turn that fact into a call for governmental powers to restrict rights (in this case gun rights) for people with mental illnesses and with limited due process.

Well, if hate is a mental illness, then he is right.

There are many hundreds of thousands (if not tens of millions) of people with no shortage of hatred... but they don't go out and kill people.

until after they shoot a bunch of people. A few people doesn't make the grade. One has to be an embarrassment, or a threat, to the Republican Gun Party to achieve that status. For anyone else, mental illness is a crime in itself.
