UPDATE 8/3 2:19 p.m. ET: 8chan was once again taken offline Monday, hours after it managed to get itself back online.

“It took us a few minutes to put everything together and we proceeded with cutting off all services for the reseller,” Voxility told VICE News after being notified on social media that its infrastructure was being used by website protection service Bitmitigate to host 8chan.

“We are against hate speech and we take a firm stand here,” the company said.

Ron Watkins, an 8chan administrator, said the site was going to give Bitmitigate some time to find another service to host their website. Otherwise he said, the website might go live without any protection and take its chances against the likely distributed denial of service attacks it will face.

Stay down! I hope nobody agrees to help them host their hateful site and they just go away forever.

If they are like 4chan, their main purpose is sharing porn, especially japanese, I thought. I doubt they will stay down. Too many people want their hentai and the like.

4. They're running out of viable options

The next step is hosting on foreign spam servers, which are usually blocked in America, especially email.

Also, in the US porn is legal and 8chan is not 4chan.

7. 8chan became popular when other sites banned discussion of the Gamergate controversy

in which feminists were harassed and threatened. Nothing is banned on 8chan apparently, so extremists flock to it. This is at least the 3rd mass shooter to post on their site.

Their site has also been known to be mixed up in other bad stuff like swatting, child porn, and sharing Nazi images that have been retweeted by the Trump campaign.

But it seems like 4chan in that you can be completely evil in one section...
or you can look at cute carttons in another, or go to the random section and discuss anything, or maybe discuss My Little Pony in another section.

Which generally turns into a cesspool. 8chan came about when 4chan finally decided to ban child porn. Eventually 8chan did the same, those who were upset mirgrated elsewhere, though they kept child porn cartoons (including a section dedicated to toddler rape cartoons). 8chan became a main online hangout for white supremecists.

told Ali Velshi this afternoon that the only platforms available to these people are Russian and are rife with malware. I would imagine that this would bring more scrutiny to them.
