the vast majority of Americans support a reasonable gun control-but nothing will ever change until the 2nd Amendment is reinterpreted (by a different SCOTUS) or amended. Scattershooting while wondering if a proposed amendment could be penned which the majority of Americans would support. I would think in order to get that support you'd have to start with specifically protecting hunting rights, defense of home and self defense. But I would think you could still get broad strong support if it outlawed high caliber guns of warfare. Perhaps its time for some group-probably not going to be a politician to attempt to define a reasonable amended 2nd Amendment to place that reasonable amendment into political discourse. Give Americans an alternative to consider and debate to allay some of the fears of Americans supporting reasonable gun rights

there must be a way to keep weapons away from psychopaths that does not violate the constitution.

(6,474 posts)from its origin. The SCOTUS decision written by Scalia-the "great" strict constructionist (geez) had to go into great acrobatic detail trying to justify "well-regulated militia" in the modern context.

Plenty of regulatory range still within the current interpretation of the court... then the next step is to take back the court

But a new court after electing a Democratic President is far more likely than 2/3 of the states amending 2A.
