Dayton, Ohio, shooting: Friend tells police alleged killer talked about shooting up college bar

Friends of the Dayton Oregon District shooter cut ties with him earlier this year because he’d unexpectedly brandish guns and once talked about shooting up Timothy’s, a popular bar among University of Dayton students, a former friend told the Dayton Daily News.

Other people—far from friendly with Connor Betts, the shooter — recalled to the Dayton Daily News how they’d been concerned about him and his bizarre behavior for years, even reporting him to local police.Police said Betts, 24, shot and killed nine people, including his sister, in a less-than-a-minute rampage Sunday in the city's Oregon District. Officers shot him outside Ned Peppers, a popular bar where many of the victims were shot. Police haven’t publicly disclosed a motive. The last straw in Will El-Fakir’s relationship with Betts was when he pulled out a gun and held it near El-Fakir’s head about five months ago.

It sounds like at least some of the incidents with this guy were reported to the police. LisaL Aug 2019 #13

But everything he did seemed so normal: compiling hit lists, talking about raping women or shooting up a college bar, holding a gun to a friend's head, collecting 100 round magazines ..

Sure, we need to keep guns out the hands of crazy people: but he seemed like a nice law-abiding boy with a totally normal enthusiasm for the second-amendment

Says it right there in the OP.
Is that legal?

I still find that strange, especially since they were hanging out together. It didn't appear that they were estranged. Anyway, I have yet to hear anything more on that angle.

He was shooting from across the street, and as he crossed the street. He quite possibly didn't even know that she was there.

but if all these busybodies who call the cops on black people drinking coffee and new moms breastfeeding in restaurants would direct their energies to reporting on worrisome people like the killer in Dayton, wouldn't that be an improvement? I'm just tired of hearing stories about people calling the cops for stupid crap, but no one seems to alert authorities about someone who talks about shooting up a bar full of people?

so the analogy doesn’t really hold. Someone did call.

Fact is even when such a person is on LE radar, nothing can be done until he or she commits a crime that is charged.
