Ivanka Trump's ideal man once was Christian Bale's 'American Psycho' character
Given these reported qualities, it may be no surprise to learn than Ivanka Trump’s “ideal man” — prior to meeting Jared Kushner in 2005 — was Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman. If you recall, Bateman is the personification of 1980s greed in “American Psycho,” the darkly humorous 2000 horror film based on Bret Easton Ellis’s book by the same name.
Patrick Bateman, as portrayed by Bale, is handsome, wealthy, disciplined and focused. He keeps himself in great shape, dresses in the best Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino suits and can always score reservations at Dorsia and other elite Manhattan restaurants.
According to Grigoriadis, Bateman also appealed to Ivanka Trump because he reminded her of her father, whom she both feared and revered: Bateman was “an ’80s scenester like her father was back then — suspenders, slicked-back hair, chops up women for a hobby,” Grigoriadis added, referring to Bateman’s sideline as a serial killer.
Meanwhile, Grigoriadis contrasts this Bale-fashioned ideal of a New York power player against Ivanka Trump’s future husband, whom she met at a networking lunch in 2005.
“Jared is handsome when you first look at him, but upon contemplation, his face is a Cubist construction,” Grigoriadis wrote. “The eyes seem to refract rather than reflect light, and he has an unpleasant cast to his mouth; what he’s turning over in his mind seems to be expressed less through words than through the railroad-straight set of his lips.”
