What Type of People Do We Wish To Be?
I grew up north of Dallas. As a young boy our family would drive to visit relatives. Our drive went through the part of Texas which had the rich, black dirt where cotton grew.
One town along highway had its train station next to the road where cotton left by train. A large sign hung above the train terminal: The Blackest Land and the Whitest People. Even at a young age I knew the meaning of that sign.
Later I would often drive that same highway. One day I noticed a change. The sign was still there, but something had changed. The sign read: The Blackest Land and the Nicest People. I took note and smiled.
Today we have a binary choice in American. Which sign do we wish to hang for our great nation? There is no middle ground. I will vote for a sign saying: “The Nicest People.”
