This is one rerun I never wanted to watch. Back in 2006, two weeks before Christmas, ICE raided the meatpacking plant in town. Children went home from school to find one or both parents missing. Some kids also had aunts and uncles and grandparents vanish into those buses. The trauma was inescapable and horrifying, and the psychological impact is still being measured.
Our DA at the time helped to engineer the raid; there were lingering questions about what part he played in exceeding the warrants limits and violating the promise to hold and not deport. He later got busted by the Colorado Supreme Court for violating the constitutional rights of Hispanic taxpayers when he raided a tax prep office and confiscated copies of their tax returns. His penalty for all this was election to Congress, where he is now the ranking member on the Immigration and Citizenship subcommittee.
Ken Buck is my alleged representative. He ran for office promising to take Weld County bullshit to Washington, and its the one promise he has delivered on. Today, as we watch in horror whats happening in Mississippi, hes probably swooning in orgasmic delight.
Such is life in a "safe" red district.
