"Hot August Nights" is a classic car event in which cars cruise downtown and thousands of people come to see...
I don't know why but I have a notsogood feeling about this weekend. Especially in Nevada, a still very "cowboy" state where guns and the culture of dominant white male are still very entrenched. Everyone is worried about Portland, I know. But there's a probability that...I can't even say it, you know what I mean.
Here's the generic press release about safety:
Here's a link to the generic safety issued by the RPD: (sorry about the source, couldn't find it at the Reno Gazzette Journal, probably on the RPD website as well)

Is it really so bad that now nobody could pay me enough to attend anything remotely crowded like this? I used to want to go see the cars etc, but there's just no way...hell I'm afraid to go near a WalMart on a tuesday forchristsakes!
ETA: I am not trying to incite fear or anything, just noticing there's a lot of traffic through Tahoe on the way to Reno this weekend and the amt of people makes it more than a little unnerving since this week's events.
(also, running to the store, will be back in a bit to catch up with you all and reply)

(13,360 posts)...what were the odds @ Gilroy? at a fucking random Walmart in Texas?
The "odds" are not playing by the rules anymore IMO...

The location of Rampage Shootings is random and unpredictable. A party in Seattle, a summer camp in Norway, a workplace, a school, a Walmart in El Paso, a McDonalds in San Diego.
You can't let the Stochastic Terrorists win. Go be in public. Defy them.

(13,360 posts)was kind of a crowd-a-phobe to begin with....This makes it worse for ppl like me...
I'm all for being vigilant as well. Hell, I had a blast @ Pride in SF this year and felt NONE of the fear...
It just feels like it's become so commonlace and something nasty shifted this week...

(21,137 posts)They had an article about safety being the number 1 priority. They have double fencing surrounding the venue. Extra police patrolling the perimeter plus private security. Since SF is one of those cities fat donnie hates it could bring right wing Crazies he incites.
I am going to a Hawaiian festival this weekend and in a small way feel anxious. This is supposed to be happening. I dont like living in fat Donnies America.

The unfortunate thing is big crowds draw terrorist, the domestic and foreign variety. But people should not stay at home and hide out, I fell into that type of funk after the Dayton mass shooting, until someone from DU pointed out that I was being overly cautious. Live life and enjoy public attractions and gatherings, terrorists don't want you to do that.
