The sad irony of Walmart guns...

Walmart has always appealed to a certain class of American shoppers - the "God, Guts, and Guns" crowd. These were folks that did not have a lot of disposable income.

Walmart has been one of the largest retailers, if not the largest, in the sales of guns in the nation. It was a natural fit for their type of customers.

But now, it seems that Walmart has become the new epicenter for mass shooting targets? Some nut went into a Walmart in Springfield, MO just a day or two ago, in full protective military garb, an assault weapon, and a 100 rounds of ammunition.

He grabbed a cart and began filming himself and the people around him, as he rolled the cart down the aisle. Some quick-thinking person, or employee, pulled the fire alarm and the customers began to file out of the store. An off-duty fireman, held the suspect until police arrived.

But, I guess the irony is that the majority of the cars in the parking lot probably had bumper stickers of Trump, or the NRA, or some meme about his gun? They will never give up their guns. That's just the way it is.

But, this is where it stops.

Even rednecks should have the freedom to shop in peace, without the fear of being shot by some nut. Nobody needs that.

Military-style assault weapons should be taken off the street. We are not "at war" with our fellow citizens. It is an infringement upon our freedom and our right to be secure in our environments and to move about freely.

Guns are not popsicles. They should not be sold to just anyone. There should be a background check on every sale of a gun in our society, even if it is to a relative. They should be able to "red flag" those persons that might not should possess any type of rifle or firearm.

Even rednecks understand that there are common sense things that government can do to make our people more free - and less fearful of gun violence.

Something has to be done.

2. To be fair, Walmart did stop selling the assault style weapons some time ago.

Not a Walmart fan, but I will give them credit for that.

Because I lived the first 18 years of my life within one mile of that store.

Most Walmarts I have seen, and visited, have had their fair share of rednecks, generally speaking.

Wait! Does that mean I'm a redneck?!

8. So we are going to stereotype Walmart Shoppers?

"Walmart has always appealed to a certain class of American shoppers - the "God, Guts, and Guns" crowd. These were folks that did not have a lot of disposable income."

In Walmarts I have visited, it seems that there are a large number of African American and Hispanic American shoppers. In fact at times they may be the majority of shoppers I have seen. I think given the income equality disparity in this country, they too don't "have a lot of disposable income".

I'm pretty sure the El Paso murderer traveled to that Walmart to target Hispanic shoppers, not "rednecks".

Likely enjoying the lower prices.

And I never saw an AW offered for sale there.

Shotguns, lower cost hunting rifles, ammo, etc. but no AW, or even rednecks, for that matter.
OMG - I did see a PoC buying ammo once.

Other than that please continue to state the obvious about how even rednecks should be able to
Shop in peace.

I don't people are as scared as you think they are.

There's no reason for Wal-mart to stop selling its hunting rifles and shotguns.

I checked my local store and they do not sell firearms. (They do have ammo, but sign requires 21 yo to purchase)

I went to a store outside the city limits and they have shotguns and rifles. They no longer sell handguns and they only sell to 21 yo and older.

I don't know if the guns they sell would be consider military style. The most expensive was $389 and it was a Ruger Semi-automatic. I noticed a few other semi-automatics, but the majority of their guns had pump triggers. The rifles didn't appear to be heavy duty, but I really don't know my guns, so I will leave it at that.
