She obviously isn't happy and drank heavily, and now her name and her sad drunken face is being splashed all over in the media.
To make matters worse she lost her job. I saw nothing about this being a first or second offense.
Why are all these pricks trying to humiliate her??

(62,444 posts)Someone responsible for passenger safety in the event of an emergency is not very effective if they are passed out drunk. I dont care what her problem is. In decades of working life, I seem to have managed not to show up for work drunk, as have not people. If that is odd to you, seek help.

(5,706 posts)Well I guess, your just the most perfect person ever.

(62,444 posts)Again, if you think it is normal to show up to work drunk, you may have a problem.
The overwhelming majority of people manage to be sober for work. It does not require perfection.

(5,706 posts)This woman needs help, and doesn't need to be totally humiliated. Once she gets herself back on her feet, Who is going to hire her?

(13,548 posts)It's against FAA regs to drink less than 8 hours before a flight or have a BAC over .04%.
People who are hired by air carriers know this going in, it's drummed into you in training.
This woman probably had been doing this for a while and getting away with it. If she had problems, she should have sought help and not endangered the passengers and the rest of the crew.
And...Chicago to South Bend? Who knew. What is that like 5 minutes?

(3,473 posts)Given the exposure, I'm not sure United Airlines has much of a choice other than to fire her, for PR reasons. Many other professions, even those where the employee is responsible for others, would deal with this with suspension, probation, requiring the person to get counseling and regular drug/alcohol testing.
I don't agree with the Internet shaming in this case. Some people just like to bash, attack, humiliate others and look for any reason to do so.

(61,593 posts)She was the only flight attendant on the plane, solely responsible for the passengers' comfort and safety. She slurred through an incomplete safety address, fell into passengers, and then passed out drunk during the flight.
You think it's unfair that she lost her job? Really?
I wish her well and hope that she recovers. This is a fairly spectacular way to hit bottom.

(44,973 posts)Not sure why someone showing at work drunk, and being fired and humiliated surprises you. In case of an emergency a flight attendant is supposed to keep passengers safe. How exactly is someone drunk can do that?

(268,942 posts)Don't show up drunk for a job that demands sobriety for safety reasons. She was effin' plastered - please. This is indefensible.
