Vent about political posts on Facebook

I don't like to do it generally, but my Republican friends and family do SO OFTEN and the things they post are so wrong, that to counter that I do post stuff I think is important to balance what's out there.

The same people who will post that Obama is intent on destroying America to help Islamic countries gets OFFENDED when I post that Ryan had a lot of lies in his speech. "I don't like to see all this political opinion on Facebook." Or, "Do you really think Facebook is the place for this kind of stuff?"

This kind of thing makes me furious. There's such a sense of entitlement. Like they're entitled to complain and have their say, but they we're wrong to want to have our say. Or even counter garbage they post. If they post something, it's open for comments IMO. Don't post it if you don't want anyone to say anything about it.

I had a friend who would get upset when anyone said anything negative about GWB. "It is wrong to speak negatively about a president during a time of war." First time she said something nasty about Obama, I pulled that back out on her. "I thought you said it was wrong to speak negatively about a president during a time of war?" OOH but that's different!

People anger me.

(OK, now I'll wait for people to tell me to just stay off Facebook. LOL)

Part of the reason I keep at it is because social media is a big deal as far as getting political information out there. There are still undecided voters, and if people like me stay of facebook or get bullied out of posting our information, all that's out there is people posting that women who get raped should get over it and not punish their fetus. Or that Obama's father's DNA in him makes him want to overthrow the US government. Or whatever other garbage there is.

I caught a wild claim just the other day that Obama will stop people from fishing! Not only will this prevent a popular sport but also the person said "no more Long John Silver's nor Red Lobster". You just read this kind of tripe and wonder what talk radio yahoo did they get this nutty idea from.

It's crazy stuff I'm seeing. Crazy claims being made. But it's offensive if I say something.

To my brother: "Obama's been president for four years. Do you still have your guns? Do you think he was just teasing you these past four years so he could get re-elected and THEN take your guns?"

I don't put up with it. I call them on every lie they say.

when I counter an ignorant post, that I have to continue to do it. If you figure how many people may read the original bullshit, and will also read your post, it is worth it. We do not want the only information out there to be from the wingnut side.

Oh, and you should stay away from FB.

I don't think that I am close to being banned----or shouldn't be. I make extreme efforts to be exceedingly polite and factual when I post so that I do not sound as bad as the kooks. And that is not my style, so it isn't easy! I just want the people who are not so extreme to see which side is sane.

emailing anything implies the acceptability of Comments & Replies. If people can't accept that, they shouldn't post.

One thing I do is to open with an honest & polite question and then connect that logically to whatever my opposed information or point of view is.

with someone who was not only just unpleasant but was really vile and verbally assaultive. I think they were actually trying to drive me away. The trick is to NOT get angry, because you have to be able to think. Use logic to tear them to shreds politely. You WILL see people Like -ing your Comments.
