My godly, Trump worshipping relatives admire Trump, not because he is a (fake) Christian, but because they see him as a deeply flawed individual who sought grace and redemption like a true believer.

They love the fact that he has a checkered past, a history of low morals and questionable ethics, and believe he has turned his life around now, trying to be the best Christian evah!

He's just like them, just as sinful, just as weak willed and prone to listening to his inner demons rather than his better Angels. But he tries, they say, excusing his racism, the depraved cruelty, his petty vengeance, the nasty sexism, his multitude of lies, because at his core Trump is a good man. In their view he is trying to walk a tightrope, and they love him despite -- or because of -- his many, many grievous faults and failures.
